It’s time we stopped thinking of these ways of spending money as silly but harmless displays of vanity, and started thinking of them as evidence of a grievous lack of a concern for others. We need an ethical culture that takes account of the consequences of what each of us does for the world in which we are living, and that judges us accordingly.

I started 2012 with Peter Singer’s The Life You Can Save, and I encourage you to read it, and take it in.
